Milk Fiasco!!

So, a couple of weeks ago, my OBGYN prescribed me some hormones to treat my Endometriosis. I was starting to get symptoms again & just blah. Anyway, he reassured me that these would not affect my milk supply at all since I had a very well established supply [I've always had an over supply... I'm just a cow, what more can I say lol].

Well in just THREE DAYS it was gone. I mean I couldn't even pump a full ounce in 30 minutes when previously I could get 6-10 in 10-15 minutes any time of the day I sat down to pump. I was ticked to say the least. John was screaming all morning last Monday & there was nothing I could do for him. I couldn't feed him. So, I caved and gave him a bottle of formula [we use formula for his cereal because breast milk breaks it down... its a strange thing]. Then I cried. A lot. I just felt so defeated & angry!

My plan was to breast feed John for a year; no more, no less. And it seemed like, thanks to my idiot OB, this this was ruined. Why didn't I have any in the freezer you might ask if I have such an over supply? Well, freezing breast milk actually kills some of the nutrients & plus, if I pumped every day to keep a good amount of frozen milk, that would just signal my body to make more & I'd have milk pouring out of my ears. So I've always just pumped when I knew I'd need a bottle. Anyways.

After doing some research though, I found plenty of ways to increase my supply. I knew Oatmeal did; I eat it every morning for breakfast, so I needed something more. I found a recipe for lactation cookies! How exciting. I figured it was worth a shot. They ended up being delicious & along with power pumping [pumping 10 minutes, resting 10, pumping 10, etc for an hour] my supply came back in just a couple of days. Hallelujah. It started working that night even, I didn't have to supplement any more formula after that first bottle.

Here's the recipe in case anyone would like it for the future; they are really yummy & do actually work!!

Lactation Cookie Recipe :-)

Anyway, I always like a good recipe so there ya go. That's really all I have to write about since I just did two blog posts this weekend.

Love my little mister!
