Life Lately...

...has been going by so quickly! I can't believe August is basically over with. September is the month that I've been waiting for since March!! Nathan is getting his R&R (rest & relaxation aka 2 week break from being in the sandbox). He will actually be here tomorrow evening; less than 24 hours to go & man oh man am I STOKED! I have been missing him so much lately so this is coming at a really good time.

John is starting to get really fun too. He loves to play & read his books. He's accomplished a few things over the past week and a half or so. John finally can roll back to tummy without any help whatsoever!! It's so adorable to watch him once he's finished because he is so proud of himself! He screeches with happiness & giggles at himself; it really is so precious.

The night John rolled over from back to tummy without any help. [Friday, August 24, 2012]

Yesterday John also threw his first full on tantrum. While it was somewhat funny, I have a feeling I'm going to have my hands full when he's 2 & 3 years old. So, it started late morning. John had just woken up from his morning nap & was hungry. He was nursing & bit me. I was dozing because John had decided to wake up every 2 hours through out the entire night so, since he's only been wanting to nurse laying down for some reason [I'm guessing because of his teeth... more comforting I suppose], I was caught off guard. Well, I exclaimed, "Ouch!!!" as my eyes flew open. I looked down at him & said in a soft voice, "We don't bite mama" while touching my pointer finger to his lips. Apparently this was offensive to him because he furrowed his eyebrows & screamed a nice loud, "AHHHH!" at me. I must admit I chuckled at him because it was kind of cute. That was obviously the wrong move on my part because for the next couple hours all he did was screech, grunt & growl [yes, he really growled] at me whenever I did something he did not like. Example number two: After nursing, we went upstairs to chow down on some yummy veggies. John has been sitting in his stroller to eat because I don't want to buy a high chair until we get back to Germany. So, I sat him down in his stroller & immediately he arched his back, threw his head back & started screeching & flailing his arms & legs about. I hurried & fastened the harness & started spooning the veggies into his mouth. He swallowed the first spoonful, furrowed his eyebrows again as he was taking a second bite & then spit it out all over me then GROWLED. Seriously?? You're 5 months old my dear son, 5 months!! Luckily, my mom was there in the kitchen with us so I have a witness that this truly did happen!!! She thought it was funny of course because it wasn't her in my place lol. After a tricky feeding session, I took John in the living room to play where all he did was scream "AHHH" at me. So, I took him back downstairs & put him down for his afternoon nap. He slept for 3.5 hours! I was able to get a lot done; including making a months worth of baby food with the baby food maker I ordered :-)

Successful string bean puree!

As some of you may recall, I blogged about this baby food maker a few weeks ago after I ordered it. I decided on the Baby Brezza Prima for severeal reasons.

1) Largest capacity of any baby food maker [4 cups]
2) Steams, Blends, Defrosts & Reheats
3) One step steam/blend process if desired
4) Preprogrammed steam times for a good selection of fruits, vegetables & meats
5) Handy little cook book/info on home made baby food
6) Grain basket for steaming & cooking whole grains
7) Can be used for much more than just making baby food :-)

Those are some some of the reasons why I chose this particular maker. I loooooove it!! It is so easy & efficient & C H E A P!!! It was just a few dollars for that month+ worth of home made baby food. Plus its way healthier & actually tastes like the food he'll be eating when he can have bite size pieces of food.

From looking at the picture above, you can see I decided on the Baby Bullet storage cups for the food instead of the Baby Brezza storage cups because they have a date dial, are safe to microwave, freeze & wash in the dishwasher. My little system that I've come up with is filling two Baby Bullet storage cups of the same food & freezing the rest of the food into little snack size ziplocs. Each snack size ziploc holds 2 Baby Bullet cup portions. This way I grab a bag, defrost it & walla, I have two portions to put in the fridge to replace the two that were eaten. This way, I'm able to have several varieties of fruits & veggies for John without anything going bad. At 5 months, John obviously gets most of his nutrition from nursing, but he also eats a good amount of solids. He has cereal mixed with a fruit in the morning. A vegetable for lunch & a veggie/fruit combo for dinner. I nurse him before he eats any solids to ensure that most of his nutrition still comes from me.

I think that about covers everything that John has been up to. I've been busy preparing to go through the temple. Just a couple more weeks!! I am so excited & am looking forward to that day very much. I'm so blessed to be able to have most of my family live in the KC area, so they'll be able to attend with me. I love that there's a temple in KC now, I can't wait to be able to take in family names hopefully on a monthly basis at the least.

Here's some fun pictures from the past couple of weeks :-)
