Friday Family Fun {Night}

Every Friday at the Miller household is family date night. We usually head to the px & commissary when Nathan is home from work to get our groceries to last us through the weekend, until Tuesday, when the commissary opens again {they're closed on Monday}. We usually grab a little bite to eat at the food court in the px before heading into the commissary.

Anyway, thats just some background info.

I went to grab a cart while Nathan was putting John's socks & shoes back on him in the car. They had one of those carts with a big attachment on the front of the cart for kids to sit on.

Like the picture below, except it was a blue bench without the separator.

We let John walk around until he starts going crazy then in the cart he goes where he proceeds to scream like a banshee. We'd never had a cart like this one before, so I thought the newness might be enough to help him behave at least for a little bit.

Epic Fail.

So, we had just finished dinner & were in the kids section of the px looking for some shoes for John since he BIT the tips of his off. Yes, you read that correctly. He's like a teething puppy. ugh.

They of course, didn't have any shoes that fit John's w i d e feet. I pushed the cart over to the baby girl section to look at the new clothes that were out on the racks & John was mad, so Nathan was pushing the cart out of the section into a main aisle. John decided to worm his way out of the harness & fell off the side too fast for Nathan to catch him & smacked his head hard on the ground, while hitting the corner of a clearance rack.

Blood everywhere! We left immediately. Nathan ran him into the bathroom to get some paper towels to try to stop the bleeding. Screaming, screaming, screaming. Poor guy. I couldn't get over all the blood; it was shocking. You hear that head wounds bleed a lot, but until you actually see it, you don't quite understand. So, I got Ellie into the car & was taking the cart to the return & found myself praying out loud that we wouldn't get pulled over by the police since John was going to ride on my lap so I could keep pressure on his gash & that nothing serious would be wrong. I didn't realize I was praying under my breath until a lady looked at me funny. ha, oh well. {My prayers were answered btw, no police at all for once! That's rare in Germany.}

His head hit hard, and I thought for sure he would have a concussion so in the car, Nathan & I just kept talking to him, making sure that he'd speak back.

The ER sent us straight up to the Pediatric unit & we were taken immediately back to a room. I filled out paperwork while John explored the room. He was clearly feeling better by this point :)

After only 30 minutes or so, the doctor came in, shaved around his wound, cleaned it & put several layers of glue on it. The best part? We can't give him any baths or showers for a WEEK. This going to be tough. John LOVES taking baths & showers. He has one a day. He begs to get into the tub. blahhhh. I might see if he'll keep a shower cap on or something.

So, John is fine. No concussion. Thank goodness! I'm still a paranoid mama & am going to check on him through out the night. It could've been a lot worse. I was grateful that the whole experience was only an hour & 15 minutes long from the time he fell to the time we left the hospital!

Read about John's first ER visit HERE which happened almost exactly a year ago. One week shy lol.
