Canon 50mm f/1.4

After a month of anxiously awaiting my first prime lens to get here, yesterday it finally arrived! To say that I love it would be a gross understatement lol. It actually feels like a real lens; meaning it doesn't feel plasticky & cheap like the 18-55mm kit lens. It's metal, sturdy & beautiful =) I love that it focuses fast & that I can leave it on AF (auto focus) but still override it with MF (manual focus) if I want without having to flip a switch. The bokeh is beautiful, smooth, creamy & all that good stuff!

I asked a few photographer friends of mine before purchase what lens they'd recommend as a first purchase up from the kit lens & the answer from them all was a prime lens, specifically the 50mm 1.8. I was really tempted to get that particular lens because it was a couple hundred dollars cheaper than this 1.4 but after reading every single review on Amazon for the 1.8 as well as the 1.4, I decided to spring for the 1.4 for a few reasons. First & foremost, I want photography to become a profession in the near future, so I want to buy quality now because I'm looking at it as an investment. Secondly, I wanted the option of 1.4 & 1.6 f-stops because I don't have a macro lens. I'd like to be able to focus in on tiny details for newborn photography & blur out everything else. The third reason that finished convincing me was, all the commenters who have owned both lenses said they wished they would've skipped purchasing the 1.8 & just gone for the 1.4 because of the quality of the two lenses; plastic vs metal, focusing accuracy, etc.

I haven't been able to use it as much as I want because John has been super cranky from us traveling the past couple days, so hes been sleeping a lot. I've been able to take photos of things, but I really want to start practicing shooting moving little subjects lol.
