Rainbow Baby | Week 10

1. Number of weeks: 10 weeks, 1 day

2. Due Date: April 1, 2016

3. Gender: Nope. Not finding out this time :) I feel like it's a boy though! I hope I'm right; it'd be so much fun to dig out all of John's old baby clothes.

4. Baby size:  roughly the size of a kumquat.

5. Weight gain/loss: d o w n 12 lbs last time I checked.

6. Maternity Clothes?: I did wear prego pants yesterday and they just kept falling down lol.

7. Stretch marks?: No

8. How's the sleep?:  I'm tired all day long and take a nap whenever I can. At night though, I toss and turn.

9. Best moment this week?:  Well, since I didn't update the past few weeks, I'll recant the last week and a half or so.

Last Wednesday I had a follow up appointment with my OB after spending all day Saturday in the ER. The ER doc. told me I had a UTI and gave me antibiotics as well as 2 liters of fluids and a bag of phenergan (I had been puking so much I hadn't peed in like 30 hours or something by the time I got to the ER).  He also wrote a script for Compazine suppositories (I took these with Ellie and they worked great). However, by Tuesday I couldn't hold anything down again; no liquids, no food. So, Wednesday  morning I go to the OB and she wants me admitted to L&D triage. I was kind of freaking out. L&D is no place to be in your first trimester. I also learned at that appointment that I had a "raging infection" not a small one like the ER doc told me. So once I got to LD, I was blasted with IV antibiotics, given some Zofran and more fluids.

My OB came to the hospital for her lunch break to check on me, which I thought was so nice of her. She made the decision then to have me get a PICC line. I had lost another 3-4 lbs since Saturday's ER visit.

So, I was taken to a different room on the 4th floor for the picc procedure because the triage rooms are just too small.

I don't know what I was anticipating really, some kind of more permanent IV? It didn't occur to me that it would be a sterile procedure to get one lol. I was pretty shocked when the two nurses came in to tell me what they were going to do. It took about 40 minutes or so from the time they started to set up to the time the PICC was successfully threaded. Everyone was gowned and masked and I was covered in blue draping lol. I did get to see my veins and such on the ultrasound machine which was pretty neat.

Anyway, once they finished, portable x-ray came to take a chest x-ray, that's right, because a PICC is a central line that runs through your subclavian vein to just above your heart! They had to make sure it was in the correct place, thankfully it was. So now, I go every morning to the hospital, up to the 6th floor Infusion Center, to get fluids and phenergan. It's been a life saver!! Thank goodness for modern medicine!

This is what it looks like now:

Nathan & I along with my dad, were able to go to the KC temple on Saturday for a baptism session. I, obviously, couldn't do baptisms bc the picc cannot get wet, but it was still wonderful to be in such a peaceful place & participate in other ways.

10. Missing anything?:  Yes & no. Of course, I miss not being violently ill, but if thats what it takes for this pregnancy to stick then I don't mind? It's mixed. I am so, so thankful to be able to have a healthy pregnancy this time and for baby to be healthy, but I'd be lying if I said I was happy every moment of every day. This has been the hardest month I think of all my pregnancies.

11. Baby Movements?:  No. Just some round ligament pains if I bend or roll over too quickly.

12. Cravings:  Sprite... its the only beverage that doesn't make me sick. Weird huh. I don't even particularly enjoy it when I'm not pregnant. Food is hit & miss. Usually nothing sounds good. I just snack all day to keep it small and light.

13. What makes you sick or queasy?:  anything lol. dirty dishes, trash, diapers, meat, the dog.

14. Any pregnancy symptoms?:
+ fatigue
+ bloated
+ acid reflux
+ crying/mood swings
+ acne
+ nausea/vomiting
+ some round ligament pains

15. Labor signs?:  nope

16. Your mood is...?:  Pretty positive, or at least I try to keep it that way. I had a blessing while I was in the hospital last Wednesday and that has given me strength on hard days.

17. Looking forward to?:  The next ob appointment. September 14th.
