John's 1 Year Well-Baby Appointment

This morning was John's 1 year well-baby check-up. After filling out the 10 page questionnaire, the doctor was very pleased with all that John can do; he's advanced for his age (his words, not mine). So, that made Nathan & I feel good as parents =) It's always nice to be told you're doing a great job teaching your child.

12 months also means more shots; Chickenpox & MMR were the two new shots. I was NOT impressed with this part of the appointment AT ALL! My only experience with John having well-baby appointments has been in Kansas in a non-military facility. We had a fabulous pediatrician & he had a wonderful staff of nurses. I never had a bad experience there, ever. In Kansas, they always had a few nurses come in for shots that way they could administer the shots at the same. This time, the ONE nurse had Nathan hold John's legs down at the knees & had me pin his arms down & then as slowly as possible gave him 4 shots. It was terrible!!! John cried SO MUCH. I felt terrible for him. He never really cried that much for his 2,4 & 6 month shots. Anyway, I'm glad thats over. He's been napping since we got home so hopefully he'll be happy when he wakes up.

Wears 12 & 18 month clothes

Loves to make messes. He empties all of his toy bins every morning when he wakes up & any other time I pick up the toys. 

Throws his food; strawberries are his favorite food ever! He'd eat the whole package if we'd let him.

Only drinks out of sippy cups; Mom put the bottles away on his bday & we haven't looked back!

Sleeps through the night (YAY); bedtime varies depending on how well he napped. Usually he's in bed around 7pm for the night. 

Has 6 teeth; 4 uppers & 2 lowers. Working on cutting 2 more on the bottom & some molars I think. I haven't been able to get as good of a look as I'd like. 

Crawls around like a mad man.

Walks along walls, couch, blockades etc.

Starting to stand with out holding onto anything.

Takes steps without help sometimes; he's much more cautious about walking than I thought he'd be.

Loves playing rough with Dad. They wrestle & do all sorts of boy play lol. 

Usually watches 1 movie a day now that Mom is on bedrest. Nemo is his favorite! 

Loves to bite & hit. 

Talks a lot; says about 10 words.

Big flirt; loves getting attention from strangers when we're out & about.
