27 Week Appointment
Yesterday I had my monthly OB check-up. Luckily my placenta had moved enough for her to get good measurements of everything that she needed to. Our little lady has grown so much! In one month she gained 1.5 lbs, which puts her at 2 lbs approximately. No wonder why my stomach seemed to balloon up.
My blood pressure, however, was not ideal =( With my first pregnancy I had pregnancy induced hypertension (anything above 140/90) & was on bed rest for the last half of my pregnancy, which was horrible. Even on bed rest by bp topped out at 151/110. Anyway, I've been extremely blessed this pregnancy to not have high bp at all. It's been around 110/65 the whole time. Yesterday it was 141/97. Ugh. I'm really hoping this was due to me being stressed out about having John there without Nathan's help & the fact that I drank a can of Dr. Pepper before hand so I'd be able to pee for them lol.
She also checked my cervix, which is nice & closed like it should be. I think though, that has caused me to have awful contractions with pain & cramping all day long today. No blood or abnormal leakage so I've just been taking it as easy as I can with an almost 1 year old little boy. Since John is asleep I plan on making myself a smoothie & watching a movie in bed =)
I have to go back next Thursday for the glucose test. I was hoping I wouldn't have to do it this time since somehow I managed to not do it with John. Somehow it got over looked. So, we'll see if my bp is still high then. I really hope it was just a fluke.
Like I've said before, at every appointment, you get an ultrasound. That's just the way Germans do things. Before every ultrasound, my doctor sits down with us in her little office outside the exam/ultrasound room & answers any questions or concerns that we may have. I decided to ask about the whole labor & delivery process over here since it's really just right around the corner. I told her about my experience with John in the states & how this time I'm going to go completely natural; no epidural or any other pain medications through IV etc. She said that was great & that I had complete control over how I want my birth experience to go, assuming that no complications arise of course. There will be a midwife with me the entire time & the only time the OB intervenes is if there's a problem. She also highly suggested a water birth. I've never really given this much thought. I've always thought I'd enjoy laboring in a tub though. When my contractions with John were 5 minutes apart I hopped in the shower at home to calm myself down & the water felt awesome beating down on my back. So, I've really been thinking about what she said. I still need to do some research on it. I want to do the safest thing for my little girl, but I have to admit... laboring and birthing in the tub is kind of appealing to me now. We'll see. I still have a couple months to decide. I'm just incredibly relieved that the doctors & midwives here have a very natural approach & are completely open to how you want things to go. They're not on a time crunch like the doctors in the states. I am SOO looking forward to giving birth here!
