This has probably been one of the longest weeks ever! I ended up taking John into the doctors on Tuesday because he refused to eat. He screamed like he was being tortured... this isn't normal for him. He's always been a great nurser but lately its been hard. After checking his mouth to see if he had Thrush, I was at my whits end thinking he had gone on a Nursing Strike- yes, this is a real thing! Click
HERE to learn more about what a nursing strike is (I had no idea there was such a thing until I found it researching Thrush on Google). It's very informative.
Anyway, I called the Pediatrician's office to make sure he wasn't sick because I've heard that ear infections can cause an abrupt stop to nursing. I left a message and felt prompted to call the breastfeeding clinic at the hospital to see if they had any pointers because at this point I was convinced he was on a Nursing Strike. The nurse on the phone was so helpful. She asked tons of questions & one of them was if he was on any medication to which I replied yes. He takes Prevacid for his Acid Reflux. She then inquired about his birth weight and how much he weighs now. I told her he was just under 7 lbs when he was born and when he was put on the Prevacid he was about 10 lbs & that if I had to guess how much he weighed now my guess would be between 15 & 16 lbs. She then thought that maybe since he's grown so much that he might need an increase in his medication. This had never occurred to me. And suddenly all these flashes of the past couple weeks of increased spitting up, fussiness, waking up at night, and coughing spells rushed through my head.
DUHHHHH I thought to myself! And right at that moment the nurse from the Pediatrician's office called me back saying that they had an opening in half an hour. Perfect! After looking over John ( Who does in fact weight a whopping FIFTEEN POUNDS now!!! ), the doctor agreed that he needed an increase in his Prevacid. It's now Thursday & he's back to his old self! I'm so glad we figured out the problem.
Then Tuesday night I started feeling sick - congestion, headache... I thought it was allergies because it's just that time of year. So I took some Zyrtec & Sudafed & called it good. Well Wednesday morning I woke up feeling ten times worse than I did when I went to bed. So I drank tons of water, probably close to too much water because I was worried that the allergy medication would dry up my milk supply. Nothing changed. So, since my uncle & brother were in town, they along with my dad, gave me a blessing Wednesday night which helped tons. This morning though I felt like I needed to go to the doctor because when I woke up I couldn't hear out of my ears. It felt like I was under 10 feet of water & my throat hurt quite a bit. So after a 2.5 hour wait I was informed that I have a sinus infection, double middle ear infection & a throat infection. He wanted me to stay and take a Strep test but I hadn't anticipated being gone for so long & needed to get back home to nurse John so I passed. He has me on a crazy dose of Augmentin... it looks like a horse pill; it's huge! Hopefully this does the trick & we all get some sleep tonight.
So, unfortunately 4th of July was kind of sucky this year. Besides Thanksgiving, July 4th is the other holiday whose food I look forward to all year long & I couldn't taste a single thing. Bummer! John also hated the fireworks... which I had anticipated but was wishing for the best. I tried going outside with him but that lasted for about 30 seconds before the screaming set in.. so, John & I had a little photo shoot in the living room waiting for everyone else to be done shooting off fireworks. I found a good deal on a Nikon at Sam's Club so I bought it because I'm out of room on my iPhone. I'm still learning how to use it (I'm not camera savvy at all!). Here are my favorite pictures of the night :)

| Sitting up all by himself!!! Proud mama :) |
| I kept trying to get him to put his arms down because I wanted a picture of the front of his onesie! It says, "This 4th of July I am Proud to Say That my Daddy is Overseas Protecting Your Freedom. Be Honored." <3 it. |

| Center of everyone's attention lol |
| He's realizing he can still hear the fireworks even though we're inside. |
| Not a fan of the big BOOMS |
| Trusting mommy when I say that he's going to be okay |
| I'm still in amazement that he's mine |
| I LOVE when he reaches for my fingers. I know it's an instinct for babies but it still melts my heart! |
| Being so silly |
| His eyes are starting to change from deep blue to hazel... I wonder what they'll end up being when he's grown. |
| He's so squirmy!! |
| I can't get enough of his little baby feet. They're just so adorable!!! |
