Today, John had his four month well-baby check-up. Along with getting weighed & measured, he received his shots. One less shot this time though, so that was nice to only get two needles.
He has grown so much! I know I just posted his weight since we went to the breastfeeding clinic on Tuesday, but since then he has gained
FIVE ounces! I guess that's what happens when you don't vomit all your food back up. The good news is that the pediatrician thinks that we'll be able to start weaning him off his Prevacid around six months. He's currently on an adult dosage!
Since his last well baby check up (2 months) he's gained 2.5 pounds which puts him at 15 lbs 12 oz. He's grown 1.25 inches which puts him at 24.5 inches & his head circumference is now 16.54 inches. For weight he is in the 66th percentile (down from 78th percentile two months ago) and his height is in the 32nd percentile (down from 46th percentile at 2 months). His head circumference is in the 41st percentile (up from the 23rd percentile at 2 months).
After his shots we went shopping at Target, Babies R Us & Dillons. He was really good & slept for most of that trip! I bought him lots of new toys & teethers. He's had fun with them in the short time he's been awake. He usually isn't very happy when he's awake give or take a few minutes. Poor little man!
Tonight was the first time John had a solid food! Up until now he's been exclusively breastfed but now that he's 4 months we got the OK to introduce him to Rice Cereal!
SO FUN!!!! My baby boy is growing up so fast! I can hardly believe it. He took the cereal pretty well actually. In a couple days we'll give him some Oatmeal and eventually progress to other cereals like Barley & Wheat, then green veggies! But for now, he just gets 10-15 spoonfuls of cereal at night to get his digestive system used to all this new stuff! Something else I learned was breast milk actually breaks down the cereals making them watery. It needs to be the consistency of applesauce at first so we mix it up with half a scoop of Enfamil. Also, breast milk has no where near the amount of Iron that babies need. You could eat a pound of meat a day & there still wouldn't be enough Iron in the milk, interesting isn't it. So that's why when you introduce the cereals they're all fortified with Iron & so is the formula. If the pediatrician hadn't told me this, I would've just mixed the cereal up with expressed breastmilk. Who knew?
Anyways.... Here are some pictures from tonight. The video won't upload... probably because it's too long so I'm trying to get it on Facebook. It's too funny!
